Experts say locust swarms pose unprecedented threat to food security

A spokesman for the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (UNFAO) has said that a swarm of locusts that have been prevalent in northern Kenya, pose an unprecendented threat to food security in the Horn of Africa, if control measures are not taken.

The swarm is now moving south and east and has been described as 'extremely dangerous'.

So far, counties in north-eastern Kenya and as far down as Meru and Laikipia have been affected. Experts say the swarm could enter Uganda and South Sudan within a week.
